API terms and acceptable use

These terms govern programmatic access to Cwupid scoring through an API key. They add to the terms of use and the privacy policy, which continue to apply in full. Where these terms are stricter, these terms apply. API access is granted by invitation and a key may be issued only against an existing Cwupid account.

What the API provides

The API returns the same experimental prediction the Cwupid website returns: a standardized score and a percentile estimating how a reference population responded to a photograph under the model’s standardized context, together with the model version, the reference population the percentile is read against, whether that percentile is valid for the answer given, and the number of people detected. It evaluates the photograph, not the human being shown. It is not a measurement of attractiveness, beauty, character, identity, social value, worth, or future success. Scoring is asynchronous and a submission may be queued.

Authorization for every photograph you submit

You may submit a photograph only if you own it or have permission to upload and analyze it, every identifiable person in it agreed to that use, and it does not depict a minor. This obligation does not transfer to your own users by disclaiming it. If people other than you supply the photographs you send, you must bind them to obligations at least equivalent to these terms and to the acceptable-use rules below, and you remain responsible for every submission made with your key. You must be able to stop submitting a person’s photographs on request.

Prohibited applications

Do not use the API, or any output of it, to screen or make decisions about people in employment, hiring, promotion, tenancy or housing, credit or lending, insurance, education or admissions, healthcare, benefits, or access to any facility, platform, or service; for law enforcement, immigration, border, or security screening; to identify, authenticate, track, profile, or surveil a person; to score a person who has not agreed to it; to score a minor; to rank, compare, shame, mock, harass, or hatefully target a person; or to build a database of people, faces, or appearance ratings. Cwupid may be used for constructive evaluation of authorized photographs, never to judge human attractiveness, identity, character, social value, or worth.

How results must be presented

Wherever a Cwupid output is shown to a person, it must be presented as an experimental model prediction about a photograph and never as a fact, a measurement, or an objective judgment about a person. Do not remove, contradict, or overstate the qualifications the API returns with a score: where the API reports that a percentile is not valid for the answer given, that value must not be shown to a reader as a percentile. Do not represent Cwupid as endorsing, certifying, or approving any person, image, or decision.

Keys

A key is shown once when it is issued and is stored only as a keyed hash, so it cannot be recovered or resent; if it is lost, ask for a replacement and for the old key to be revoked. Keep it secret, keep it out of client applications and public repositories, and tell us immediately if it may have been exposed. The browser session cookie is deliberately not accepted as API authentication. Revocation takes effect on the next request.

Charges, limits and capacity

Each score costs one credit from the account the key belongs to, reserved before the photograph reaches the scorer and returned automatically if the action fails. A refused submission is never charged. Your key may carry a daily credit ceiling in addition to the account’s own limits, and the lower of the two applies. API traffic runs in its own queue lane with a bounded share of scoring capacity: this is deliberate, and it means a large batch may be refused with nothing charged and should be retried rather than treated as an error. Do not attempt to evade a limit, a ceiling, or a refusal, and do not run more than one key to obtain more capacity than one has.

What we store, and for how long

A submitted photograph is held in private storage only until its scoring job reaches a terminal state, and is then deleted. Cwupid does not use uploaded photos or derived face information for advertising, marketing profiles, data brokerage, surveillance, identity recognition, or training its scoring or feedback models. The record of what was charged is kept, because it is an accounting record. The privacy policy explains the fields, service providers, storage, retention, and deletion practices in detail.

The model may change

A model name identifies a specific model and every response reports the model version that produced it. Cwupid may add models, and may change which model a name refers to when a name is retired or replaced; where such a change would alter the values you receive, it will be announced and the previous name kept available for a stated period. Compare model versions rather than assuming a score is stable across them. Scoring may be changed, limited, suspended, or discontinued, and the scorer runs on on-demand infrastructure that may take time to start.

Suspension and revocation

Cwupid may suspend or revoke a key immediately, without notice, where it is reasonably needed to stop a prohibited use, protect people, investigate a report, protect the availability of the service for other customers, or comply with law. Revoking a key stops access; it is not a charge and does not change what you have already been billed. Refunds are handled under the refunds policy, which applies to API charges exactly as it does to any other.

Support and billing questions go to [email protected], which is the only support channel; we aim to reply within two business days. If a change to these terms materially affects what you pay, what you get, or what you are permitted to do, we will post it here with a revised effective date and email key holders before it takes effect. Continued use after an update means the revised terms apply.
